gruppo formatrici

From 6 to 22 March, the course for formators in charge of the noviciate and pre-novitiate was held in Siliguri, India. The theme of the course was “Formative journey of the pre-novitiate and of the international novitiate in the light of the Chapter”. The XI General Chapter reaffirmed the need for a personalized, not only informative, but transformative formation that helps young women to assume the responsibilities of their own Christian, consecrated and missionary identity (cf. Chapter Acts, 59). There were 12 formators from different countries namely Italy, India, Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea, Cameroon and Guinea-Bissau.

The input sessions were on Formation of conscience and abuse of power and authority by Sr. Francina Soosai Britto, Formation on Interculturality by Sr. Biji Philip and reflection on Constitutions by Sr. Maria Elena Boracchi. The methodology of this course was very simple where each one was given sufficient time to express and to share the lived experiences, ideas, opinions and challenges in the field of formation.

Sr. Victoria, from the Delegation of Guinea-Bissau, Sr.  Susanna, from the Province of Siliguri and Sr. Silvia Leoni, from the Province of Bangladesh shared with us their experiences.

From multiculturality to interculturality

It was an immense joy, as formator, to come together, to share, and to know each other personally. Sharing broadened my horizons, assisted me to learn from others and helped me to introspect my life as a formator. It invited me to make a shift from multiculturality to interculturality. I became aware of the challenges that I need to reflect and deal with dedication in the field of communication and formation and also the dedication needed to prepare the postulants for the international novitiate with right motivation.  The other aspect I underline is on the re-insertion of our young sisters after the international novitiate, in their respective organisms, with personal accompaniment and guidance.

Towards community holiness

This course was an opportunity to learn more about certain realities of the mission and the sisters facing those realities. An experience of concrete sharing of our internationality and interculturality. I have experienced that we are together on the path, and we all tend towards a common goal. In our formation, I believe it is important to prepare to live in intercultural communities, therefore, to form with the willingness to change, to accept other ways, to choose flexible styles, to be able to walk truly together towards community holiness.

Silvia Leoni, Province of Bangladesh

We are thankful to Sr. Antonella Tovaglieri our Congregation Leader, for giving us this opportunity to come together in order to give our best to the Young women in their journey of formation. We do appreciate with gratitude Sr. Maria Elena Boracchi and Sr. Biji Philip, General Counsellors, for their thoughtfulness and dedication to organize this course for us.  Special thanks to Sr. Francina Soosai Britto for her enlightenment.  The family spirit was very much felt throughout our stay at Vimala Niketan, Siliguri and other communities at Adhikari, Kalchini, Jyothi Niwas, and Kolkata. We are grateful for the joyful witness, availability and love of every sister, which made us to feel at home. Above all, we thank God for this unique moment of exchange among us. May all our efforts in the field of formation make alive the words of Blessed Paolo Manna, “we must be confirmed and transformed in Christ.”
