The arrival of Pope Francis in Bangladesh is now almost near and our country will have a very significant moment from 30th November to 2nd December. The preparations seemed at full stretch with enthusiasm when the news was made official. The whole Christian community is waiting for the success of this event.
As the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate were asked to collaborate in the preparations at various levels and in different ways, Sr. Bondona has been a member of the welcoming and salutation committee. Sr. Cristina took part in the liturgical commission and Sr. Maria Costa had a responsibility in the transport and accommodation committee. Sr. Annamaria was asked to work together with the Nunciature for various translations. In addition, Sr. Elena and Sr. Mariangela helped together with Sr. Filomena to prepare the chasubles for the bishops and for Pope for the final day Eucharistic celebration. Some women from the sewing centres of Bonpara and Gopalpur also helped the Sisters.
We are happy to cooperate with each other in order to welcome the Pope with immense joy. Christians in general were interestingly curious. The parishes register itself for the various appointments, and get information. We prayed earnestly every day after mass for the successful visit of the Pope.
In this country, the majority of the populations are Muslims. The number of Hindus and Buddhists are equally good enough. But the Christians are only 0.2% and who are usually dispersed in the crowd.
We hope that the visit of Pope Francis will give a little ‘visibility’ to this part of Bangladesh and revitalize the souls of Christians who, just in small numbers, desire to be a leaven in this society to live a life in fullness.
