Dear Sisters,
Today we enter into the extraordinary time of missionary spirit that Pope Francis asked the whole Church to live and to commemorate the centenary of the promulgation of the Apostolic Letter Maximum Illud by Pope Benedict XV.
“Baptized and sent: the Church of Christ on a mission in the world”. This is the theme chosen to emphasize that the sending to the mission is rooted in the gift of Baptism.
We hope that this time will become a privileged occasion for the whole Church to renew the missionary spirit ad gentes and for every baptized the discovery of “being a mission”, as Pope Francis has repeatedly reminded us.
There have been many initiatives of reflection, missionary and vocation animation and prayer that have prepared us for this event and that we ourselves have promoted.
Pope Francis made a great gift to the Church and we are grateful for this! We also want to celebrate this Month in a special way, giving to our missionary family and the church, for the second time in this year, two new destinations for the mission.
Here are the names of the sisters destined:
Sr. Rosangela Ratti | from the province of Italy | to the mission of Tunisia |
Sr. Shyla Rayappan | from the province of Hyderabad | to the province of Italy |
I thank Sr. Rosangela who after helping us for a few months to initiate the new community in Tunisia, welcomed this destination with joy. With her destination, we will have the possibility to erect the community in Tunis.
Sr. Shyla has worked in formation in these years. With her destination we want to enhance what we have reiterated in the XI General Chapter about the importance for formators to have a significant experience of mission ad extra (Acts n. 60).
Mary went to Elizabeth as a servant of the Lord, carrying Jesus in her womb: she said nothing of herself, only brought the Son and praised God. She was not the protagonist, but the servant of the only protagonist of the mission. This icon helps all of us, especially the sisters destined, to live our missionary vocation with joy and in a spirit of service.
Wish you all a meaningful Missionary Month!
Affectionately yours,
Con affetto,
Sr. Antonella Tovaglieri
Superior General
