(Rocca di Papa, 29 September 2024) – On 28 September 2024, the XII General Chapter of the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate – PIME concluded. The final celebration, held at 4:30pm in the Sacred Heart International Spirituality Centre in Rocca di Papa, was presided by Fr Armando Nugnes, Rector of the Pontifical Urban College.
Taking inspiration from the Gospel of the day, Fr Armando emphasised that the true meaning of mission is to follow Jesus in his own footsteps. We are disciples, he continued, following the Master, not leading. We are called to be responsible, not chiefs, that is, people whose task it is to give a response with their own lives. He concluded by saying: ‘Our life is a mission and we thank the Lord that the mission is always bigger and broader than any of us. We have the simple task of obeying’.
The new General Council, composed of Sr. Antonella Tovaglieri, General Responsible, Sr. Suzanne Djebba, Vicar General, Sr. Annamaria Panza, Sr. Francina Soosai Britto and Sr. Maria Elena Boracchi, General Councillors, will have the task of implementing what was established in the final document drafted by the Chapter Members.
The orientations of the sexennium will be in line with the four sustainability: charismatic, ecclesial and apostolic, relational, economic to be implemented in the redesigning plan of the Congregation. The Chapter invites each missionary to give new vitality to the charism with courageous and prophetic choices, to give a convinced, joyful and radical witness to the Gospel, lived in fraternity and mutual obedience, and to make the congregation sustainable with courage, faith and hope in the future, certain that the Lord will accompany the steps of each one and especially of the new General Council.
