Sr. Sharena Ferrão is a Missionary Sister of the Immaculate (PIME) and in this video she narrates her experience as a missionary in the Amazon, currently in the community of Santa Rita do Weill, parish of São Paulo de Olivença, diocese of Alto Solimões.
It is her first experience with an indigenous area among the Ticuna people. Santa Rita do Weil is located on the triple border between Brazil, Colombia and Peru. Life is very threatened, says sr. Sharina, between drug trafficking and people trafficking, but the indigenous people show her all the splendor of a life in harmony with nature; she learns and appreciates indigenous culture and wisdom. In a Christian community managed mainly by lay protagonists and convinced witnesses of the faith, she feels the call to help them safeguard their lives, defend their rights and share the richness of their culture.
