Navchetan is a project active since 2017 managed by the New Humanity international association that aims at the development and the social inclusion of children with disabilities living in Jawahar Nagar slum of Jaipur, in Rajasthan.
While India is better off in the social and education sectors, it is at the bottom of the list even amongst developing nations in healthcare. And within the country, Rajasthan is a laggard. Most of the disabled don’t have access to education and special care. The illiteracy and lack of awareness prevents the poor to benefitting even from available services.
According to Community Based Inclusive Development (CBID) methodology defined by WHO, they are trying to promote social inclusion of children not only through physical rehabilitation, but also through the involvement of communities and families, based on 5 pillars: health, livelihood, education, social development and empowerment. For this reason operators are regularly visiting families, working with local communities about awareness, providing home-based assistance and rehabilitation services.
This video tells us the moving story of Palak, a little girl who, due to problems in childbirth, can not walk and that, thanks to the centre, Palak is starting to move again.
The Navchetan centre welcomes about 70 children like Palak who would have no chance of doing physiotherapy without paying large sums of money.
