Sr. Elvira

Sr. Elvira embodied motherly love and was actively involved with the poor and marginalised, caring for patients suffering from leprosy, tuberculosis and HIV.

Her selfless service earned her the affectionate name ‘Veeramma’ among the patients she served.

Her missionary journey took her to several places, including Amalapuram, Vatluru, Gunadala, Mumbai, Bangalore, Shanthi Nagar, Tanuku, Kalidindi, Araku Valley, Vegavaram and Bhimavaram where she carried out various services including community leader, hostel in-charge and catechetical ministries. He worked in the dioceses of Warangal, Vijayawada and Eluru, where, following the example of Jesus, the Sower, she sowed seeds of faith in the hearts of many, bringing people closer to Christ.

With a simple spirit, listening to God’s will and willing to sacrifice, she had the unique ability to connect with people. Her missionary passion knew no bounds. She visited villages, families and individuals, offering comfort, bringing and strengthening faith in God’s providence. She worked to support the building of parish churches and encouraged priests with her prayers and contributions.

Sr. Elvira was a lively and pleasant presence in her community, always active in prayer and other spiritual practices. Despite her long-standing health challenges, including asthma, hypertension and varicose ulcers, Sr Elvira faced her sufferings with grace and strength.

Her deep friendship with Jesus was her strength throughout her life, as her favourite hymn, ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus.’ testifies. Although we will miss her physical presence, we know that she is now enjoying the heavenly bliss she longed for.
