sr Amala

Sr. Amala Varuvel was a beloved teacher known for her meticulous handwriting, passionate teaching, and compassionate discipline. She exemplified accountability and unwavering principles, making a lasting impact on her students and community. Despite personal struggles, she stood firm against injustice, leaving an inspiring legacy of dedication and love.

When I think of Sr. Amala Varuvel, the image that immediately comes to my mind is her impeccably neat, beautifully formed handwriting — a testament to the precision and care she instilled in her students. Sr. Amala taught with a loving and wholehearted dedication, ensuring that every work she undertook was executed with the utmost care and diligence. Her reputation as a sought-after Mathematics and English teacher in the primary school was well-earned. Teaching Mathematics to young minds was her passion, and it was evident in the meticulous and systematic notebooks of her students. These notebooks were a reflection of her caliber, orderliness, and the high standards she maintained in her classrooms.

Sr. Amala was blended with the personality of firmness in her decision and compassionate in her approach. She believed firmly in the principle of nurturing rather than punishing. The maxim, “spare the rod and spoil the child,” was far removed from her teaching philosophy. Parents who knew her, and the students who benefitted from her guidance, held her in high regard and expressed profound gratitude.

Her hallmark traits were accountability and transparency. Sr. Amala’s strictness extended to all aspects of her work, and she expected the same level of integrity from others. When she noticed deviations, she was unafraid to speak out, often directly addressing issues. This unwavering honesty did not always sit well with everyone, yet it underscored her commitment to her principles. Once she was convinced of something, her resolve was unshakeable, and she clung firmly to her opinions, refusing to compromise.

Beyond her professional life, Sr. Amala was an ardent missionary, deeply committed to her faith and community. She regularly visited villages, engaging with families and emphasizing the importance of personal and familial evangelization. She often said, “Let us evangelize ourselves and our family first; then there is credibility to our words.” After the passing of her mother, she made it a point to gather her siblings and their families at least once a year during the summer vacation. These gatherings fostered unity, collective prayer, and shared joy, and also fortified the family against the influence of other Christian denominations seeking to draw them away.

Her heroic deeds in standing alone against injustice are worthy of deep admiration. Despite the challenges, she remained steadfast, fighting for what she believed was right. Her legacy of unwavering faith, integrity, and love continues to inspire all who knew her.

May God reward her abundantly for her tireless service and enduring spirit.
