1995, the first group of Grade 10 students from Santa Maria High School in Watuluma smile and wave from their brand-new school dinghy, proudly named ‘Santa Maria.’ The boat, recently acquired by the school, was used by this group of Catholic students to reach Luamata, a nearby uninhabited island, where they spent time in reflection and prayer during a spiritual retreat.
