On the occasion of International Women’s Day, 8 March 2025, we propose a time of prayer and reflection, thanks to the World Day of Prayer (WYP) initiative, led this year by the women of the Cook Islands. With the theme “I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14), we celebrate the beauty of God’s creation reflected in every woman, recognised as a unique and precious gift. This ecumenical event, bringing together women of different faiths, proposes a liturgy that unites global voices to ‘inform, pray and act’, valuing the dignity of women in a world of challenges and hopes.
The women of the Cook Islands invite us to recognise that each of us has been created by God with care and love. When we can receive this profound truth, everything in our lives changes and we begin to radiate and shine from within. We also learn to treat each other with respect, remembering that they too are wonderful creatures made by God.
This day is not only a time of celebration, but also a call to action: to pray for women fighting for their rights and to support concrete projects of solidarity. The liturgy, enriched with reflections and songs, invites us to recognise the “wonderful” in every woman and to promote a common commitment to a future of peace and equality, rooted in the Christian faith.
