E' nel 1988 che sr. Damiana Tansini, originaria di Castiglione d'Adda (Lodi) e Missionaria prima in India e poi in Papua Nuova Guinea, arriva a Watuluma e inizia una lunga storia missionaria in cui presterà servizio nella comunità di Watuluma in ospedale per nove anni e poi collaborerà negli inizi della comunità di Vanimo nel 1997, occupandosi di pastorale giovanile e vocazionale.
