The World Day of Prayer for Vocations will be celebrated on Sunday, 11 May 2025, an annual appointment that invites the entire Catholic community to reflect on the theme of vocations and to pray that the Lord will continue to arouse in the hearts of young people the desire to follow him.
The theme chosen for this year is inspired by St Augustine’s quote: ‘In any kind of life, one does not live without these three propensities of the soul: to believe, to hope, to love’. These words, recalled in the Bull of Indiation of the Ordinary Jubilee of the Year 2025, underline how faith, hope and love are fundamental in any vocational journey. Indeed, believing witness is called to be in the world a leaven of genuine hope, announcing “new heavens and a new earth” (2 Peter 3:13) where justice and concord reign among peoples.
The World Day of Prayer for Vocations represents a privileged moment to renew the commitment of the whole Church in promoting and supporting the different calls that the Lord addresses to his children. Through community and personal prayer, we are invited to ask the “Lord of the harvest” to send labourers into his harvest (cf. Mt 9:38), so that the Church’s evangelising mission may continue with renewed vigour and hope.
